Redesigning Speed: A Bold Take on the 128th Penn Relays
For the historic 128th annual Penn Relays, our design team at the Daily Pennsylvanian sought to reimagine how stories of track, racing, and athletics are conveyed through print. This special edition newspaper merges a modernized, minimalist aesthetic with a bold approach to sports design, creating a dynamic visual language that captures the spirit and velocity of the event. This special issue was awarded third place in the Pinnacle College Media Award Best Print Special Section.
Concept Building
For the special edition layout of the Daily Pennsylvanian's coverage of the 128th Penn Relays, our aim was to visually capture the essence of runner's high, intense competition, and peak athletic performance, all while maintaining the essence of the event's host institution, Penn. Through the strategic use of gradients, textures, and patterns, we curated a modern and vibrant aesthetic that encapsulates the vigor and enthusiasm of the occasion within our designs.
